I like a colleague’s explanation that he gave about what NullPointerException is in java:
“Well, suppose you come to your mom and say, ‘Mom, mom, can I have a puppy?’ The mother is not. She may have died 10 years ago. Maybe it never existed. Then there is the NullPointerException.
