The dancers

I may not know here. What "dances" are we talking about? Any discotheque is modern - the essence of a disco bar. Someone came to dance, someone came to drink, someone with friends for the company, but does not drink or dance.
Where does this "stand at the wall" and so on? Are we talking about the 80s?
