There was, apparently, the story of Asimov about a man who was thrown into another dimension during the experiment. And when he was taken, he could not eat the earthly food, because all the amino acids in his body were "reflected." This is exactly what happens with artificially synthesized substances.

Not Asimov, but Iron "Door in the Sand". And not quite dropped, and not quite into the dimension - the character passed through an alien device. He ate it, but the taste was different.
