To feed a child, especially until the state in which he fails, you do not need a lot of money. Falling into starvation is generally quite difficult, this is not everybody does during wars. Just a note.

Not literally from hunger, probably, but low hemoglobin due to unbalanced nutrition can quite cause fainting.
