The African frog Trichobatrachus robustus has a unique protection mechanism. At the time of danger, her subcutaneous bones on her legs pierce the skin and rise out, like cat nails. How the reverse "traction" occurs is not yet known - presumably, the broken tissue regenerates, and the bones cluster again.
