In the second half of January 1925 Chukovsky was sent by the Soviet government to Finland – to Kuokkala near Repin, to persuade him to return to his homeland, where he will be honored and respected, the Stalin Prize and during his lifetime a monument to Vucic’s work. After some time Chukovsky returned and broke down to report that all his attempts to influence the painter broke like a wave on a stone. Five years later, Ilya Efimovich died. His diaries were also printed in Finland. Where there were such lines: “Root came. I did not advise you to come back.”
