When Brandon Grimshaw was forty, he quit his job as a newspaper editor and began a new life. For $13,000 he bought a tiny deserted island in the Seychelles and moved there forever.

At first, Grimshaw could not even get around the island – he had to sail to the opposite end in a boat.

While René only visited the island periodically, Brandon lived on it for decades without leaving anywhere. and alone.
In 39 years, Grimshaw and Lafortin planted 16,000 trees and built 5 kilometers of paths.
In 2007, René Lafortin died, and Brandon remained on the island alone.

It attracted 2,000 new bird species to the island and brought more than a hundred giant turtles that were on the verge of extinction in the rest of the world (including the Seychelles).
Thanks to Grimshaw's efforts, the once deserted island now houses two-thirds of the Seychelles' fauna.
