In response to the story of the "Earth tribute to the master self-made".
In the early 1850s. The Russian Empire began deliberately deteriorating relations with the Ottoman Empire to provoke the Sultan to declare war. Then it was thought that the brave Russian soldiers would deal with the Turks in two ways - and it was likely, but Britain and France intervened in the war... In general, everyone heard about the Crimean War.
So, in 1853, in order to provoke the sultan, the lord Nikolai Palych sent the prince Alexander Menchikov (the grandson of the same Menchikov) as an ambassador to Istanbul. In addition to other deliberate violations of the diplomatic etiquette, Menchikov did not worship when meeting with the sultan himself - a terrible insult! The Turks, not seeing the possibility of forcing the prince to worship, made the gateway at the entrance to the throne hall so low that it was impossible not to bend.
Menchikov entered the throne hall with his back forward. and inclined.
