Chemical Weapons in the Civilized World
In 1953, 20-year-old Ronald Maddison, a British Air Force engineer from Consett, Darem County, died while testing sarin on a human in the Porton Down Scientific and Technical Laboratory in Wiltshire. Madison was told that he was involved in an experiment to treat a cold. Within ten days after his death, the investigation was conducted in secret, after which the verdict "accident" was issued.
